Journal #55 | Dear friends gifted me this journal on Christmas in 2019

“I care and I dare.” -Maya Angelou

Have you ever felt your body come back to itself?

When I was being pulled in multiple directions, I successfully switched jobs. I continued to be a high performer at work. I know the game. I know I have to be a high performer regardless of being in a pandemic or any other reason. I was on top of my caregiver responsibilities. And I continued to give my time and energy to most of the relationships around me as best as I could.

Meanwhile, my sleep was off. My health was being punctuated by my doctor. My role at work didn’t suffer. Managing my caregiver responsibilities didn’t suffer. The attention I gave my partner didn’t suffer. The relationships that surrounded me still had my attention. The relationship that suffered the most was the one I had with myself.

The sentiment was to suck it up and power through. It’s what I had done all my years prior. And I knew I deserved better. I knew I worked hard for better. I decided to walk away from giving so much altogether while being disrespected. Nobody could prioritize my wellness but me. I finally did.
