When Business as Usual Is a Lie | Working Through Fear, Grief, and Injustice

Despite the facade of business as usual, everything is not okay.

Corporate America taught me how to function at a high level through grief, fear, and danger, all while maintaining a smile. I led meetings as the January 6th insurrection unfolded. I continued to work through deaths, disasters, and emergencies. Always expected to perform at a high level, delivering results, without a pause.

If you’ve seen my recent posts, you’re witnessing a survival response that I’ve relied on for years. It’s not something I’m proud of, and it’s a reality so many of us are living right now.

We are witnessing abductions occurring across major U.S. cities, including our own. Our communities are living in fear. Today, the City of Pasadena canceled community events. Not due to weather conditions, but because of confirmed federal enforcement activities in our public parks.

Earlier this week, six Pasadena residents were detained off the street. ICE agents pointed a gun at a young man for filming the incident. Social media is filled with receipts of these events.

Residents are locking their doors, terrified to leave their homes.

These inhumane acts will not be normalized or accepted.
